Punho Forte believes that the only way for the association to become self-sufficient is not through handouts, but by devising a sustainable way to raise funds while still maintaining control and independence within their own project. In setting up a volunteer programme, not only does Punho Forte receive a steady income to finance its running costs, it also provides volunteers from outside the community to enjoy a rich learning experience. Furthermore, Itacaré, because of its large tourism industry, is a very cosmopolitan city with people from all over the world living here. By having an exposure to persons from different cultures from an early age, the children are preparing for the inevitable changes that face their city.
To apply to be a volunteer, please read carefully the information below and fill in the relevant application form here and e-mail to punho.forte.brasil@gmail.com
Punho Forte shall select volunteers on an “equal opportunity” basis. We seek volunteers who can make a real change to the programme. Priority shall be given to candidates with special skills, those who have experience or training in educating children (e.g. art, TEFL, theatre, sport, child psychology, environmental or drug awareness, etc.) or in helping the local volunteers with the running of the project. Volunteers are encouraged to show initiative and imagination and will be encouraged to submit ideas for their own sub-projects that can be financed by the funds that they have raised.
Each intake of new volunteers is during the first weekend of every month.
As the work is with children, Punho Forte is very aware of the strong emotional bonds that children make with their educators, and thus require that volunteering is for a minimum of 2 months.
Each volunteer shall be assigned a local volunteer or “buddy”. The buddy shall assist the volunteer in assimilating into Itacaré life. The volunteer and buddy shall also work on classes and projects together. Whereas the buddy can assist with cultural and language difficulties, the volunteer can share his or her skills with the buddy. This is a great opportunity to make friends and for a mutual learning experience.
The Punho Forte Volunteer Programme requires volunteers to raise a Programme Contribution which includes the volunteers living costs for that period. Prior to arrival and during the stay the buddy will assist the volunteer in finding accommodation to suit their requirements and to give them any other local assistance they should require.
Punho Forte is a fully accountable and transparent to accounts association, and prospective volunteers can be fully facilitated if they wish to view the association’s accounts or to be informed in writing where the monies are to be allocated.
Each volunteer shall provide police clearance prior to being accepted on the programme. The safety of the children is of the utmost priority for Punho Forte.
Essentially each volunteer should view this as a wholly enriching experience and a unique learning opportunity to help a community that is in rapid transition to change for the better by assisting young lives to grow in a positive manner. Itacaré is a friendly and fun place to be and Punho Forte will do all that it can to assist volunteers have a truly memorable experience with us...
Punho Forte encourages volunteers to organize fundraising campaigns and activities to raise the money while also spreading the word about Punho Forte. The Programme Contribution can be above this minimum amount, and prospective volunteers who agree to raise larger amounts will increase their chance of being chosen for the programme. The Programme Contribution can be either donated directly to the Association, or the volunteers can send a proposal for their own sub-project that they wish to finance and develop with part of their Programme Contribution.
